On Track
"On Track" - Little Athletics for U6 and U7
On Tack Program ( Under 6 & Under 7 )
Little Athletics is committed to giving children the best opportunities to experience and enjoy athletics. By
providing young athletes with a quality mix of skill development, plenty of practice and appropriate age
level competition; children will enjoy even more their time in athletics and develop their skills across the full
spectrum of track and field events.
For the U6 age group - after the initial period of focus on skill development (4-6 weeks) the program
offered at Diamond Valley includes modified competition on a weekly basis where there is a rotation of a
70m sprint and a long jump event with NO times/distances recorded. Where practical, a modified throws
event may also be incorporated into the program.
At Centre Championships the U6 On Track group will perform a demonstration on the skills they have
developed throughout the season, and take part in 70m sprint and long jump event on the Saturday
morning. 70m event – 1st, 2nd, and 3rd placegetters receive place ribbons, all remaining athletes receive
competitor ribbons. Long Jump event – all competitors receive a competitor ribbon only.
For the U7 age group - after an initial period of focus on skill development (4-6 weeks) the program offered
at Diamond Valley includes modified competition on a weekly basis where there is a rotation of events. The
athletes are divided into three groups and rotate through one event (100m, 70m, Shot Put or Discus) on a
weekly basis. Following the Christmas break, each group will do 2 events (100m,70m, Shot Put, Discus, or
Long Jump), again rotating on a weekly basis. Times and distances will be recorded. Records will be
recognised for U7 during Centre Championships only.
At Centre Championships, athletes will take part in the Centre’s Championship event (no On Track program
available). Athletes with be able to enter three events for the weekend. Eligible events: 100m, 70m, Long
Jump, Discus, and Shot Put. All field events will be straight finals for medals. Athletes will be graded for
sprint events, based on times taken throughout the year. Only the Blue Final will be eligible for medals. All
other sprint finals will be for place ribbons only. We do not run event heats for any age group. This event is
