On Track

"On Track" - Little Athletics for U6 and U7

 

On Tack Program ( Under 6 & Under 7 )

Little Athletics is committed to giving children the best opportunities to experience and enjoy athletics. By providing young athletes with a quality mix of skill development, plenty of practice and appropriate age
level competition; children will enjoy even more their time in athletics and develop their skills across the full spectrum of track and field events.

For the U6 age group – after an initial period of focus on skill development (4-6 weeks) the program offered at Diamond Valley includes modified competition on a weekly basis where there is a rotation of a 70m sprint and a Long Jump event with NO times/distances recorded. Where practical a modified throws event will also be incorporated into the program.

At Centre Championships the U6 On Track group will perform a demonstration of the skills they have developed over the season and take part in a 70m and Long Jump event on the Saturday morning with 1st,
2nd & 3rd placegetter ribbons awarded along with competitor ribbons for all others in the 70 metres event. All competitors in the Long Jump will receive a competitor ribbon only.

sprint and a Long Jump event with NO times/distances recorded. Where practical a modified throws event will also be incorporated into the program.

2nd & 3rd placegetter ribbons awarded along with competitor ribbons for all others in the 100 metres event. All competitors in the Long Jump will receive a competitor ribbon only.

Skill development is measured according to levels achieved:

  • Level 1 (Little Blues) doing Fundamental Motor Skills<
  • Level 2 (Rockhoppers): development of Fundamental Athletic Skills
  • Level 3 (Kings): Transitional Athletic Skills (typically U8)

Skill Awards:

Individual skill awards are provided to children when they have mastered all the skill components that make up each individual skill. These will be progressively handed out to children during the season in
recognition of their progress.

Level Certificates:

At the end of each season children involved in the On Track program will receive a Level Certificate that indicates the level of skill they have achieved over the season.
